Sales Tax Increase Slated for April 2009

When the voters in King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties approved Sound Transit's Proposition 1 on November 4, 2008, they approved a sales tax increase of a half a cent for each dollar spent.

It is anticipated that the increased sales tax rate to fund the $17.9 billion transit measure will go into effect on April 1, 2009.

Check the Washington State Department of Revenue's website during the next few months for official word on the effective date of the increase.

For the City of Seattle, the sales tax rate will increase from 9.0% to 9.5%.
