Reorganization Merges Washington State Agencies

As part of the budget for the State of Washington, the Legislature adopted a reorganization affecting a number of agencies, all as proposed by Governor Chris Gregoire.

New Department of Enterprise Services:  Effective October 1, 2011, the Department of General Administration, the Department of Personnel, the State Printer, and parts of the Office of Financial Management will be eliminated and merged into a new Department of Enterprise Services (DES).  The budget cutting measure, which is expected to save $18.3 million in the biennium, was approved in SB 5931.

Procurement and Contracting Functions:  From a procurement and contracting perspective, the Department of General Administration currently houses the Office of State Procurement (goods and services) and the Division of Engineering and Architectural Services (EAS) (construction contracting and architectural and engineering services).  These functions will be moved, along with the rest of General Administration, into the new Department of Enterprise Services.
