On January 4, 2010, the Assembly Labor Committee of the New Jersey State Legislature approved on a 6 to 2 vote a bill that would require contractors on public works projects to participate in an apprenticeship program, thus effectively limiting public works contractors to union contractors.The Committee adopted amendments to the bill as originally introduced in late November 2009 to phase in the implementation of the requirements.
