Port Hires Mike McKay to Investigate Potential Fraud
The Port of Seattle, at its Tuesday meeting of the Board of Commissioners, hired former U.S. Attorney Mike McKay to conduct an internal review in response to the December 20, 2007 report of the State Auditor's Office that found that "the Port lacks sufficient policies and procedures to safeguard public assets from misuse, abuse and fraud." While the audit didn't specifically identify any instances of fraud or abuse, the auditor asserted that the Port's practices left "the Port's construction management vulnerable." McKay will be tasked with determining whether there were any instances of fraud or abuse.
