What are local preferences? In recent years, many public agencies have adopted local bid preferences, providing a financial advantage to local businesses, and a disadvantage to businesses from outside the local area. Defining the nature of the advantage and what businesses are considered localare among the challenges in implementing local bid preference laws.While these laws help the local economy from one perspective, they often end up resulting in higher prices for government agencies as they award projects to other than the low bidder.
